How can we be more Holistic?

In today’s fast-paced world, some of us aren’t able to make time to think about our health and well-being until we crash or become physically or mentally unwell. We often see friends or family seeking quick fixes to diminish symptoms of burnout but they may not always get to the root cause of the problem, which therefore causes symptoms to reoccur. Stress is a huge factor for our health; it can cause physical, mental and emotional symptoms without us even being aware.

My name is Ali, and I set up Rebalanceyou in 2018 with my aim to help others become aware of their health and well-being. Alongside Reflexology and Reiki, I also offer meditation and mindful coaching with space for my clients to escape from the stresses of everyday life and time to focus on how they can improve their own physical, mental and emotional health with an understanding of how our mind and body is connected.

One common misconception about holistic practices is that they require significant time, money, and effort. Some people will dismiss alternative therapy, because of this, however, there are practices that are accessible to everyone.

So, how can we bring holistic ways into our life to improve our health and well-being?

I asked my clients what changes they have made and how it has impacted their lives. Here are some examples of how small changes have made significant impacts to their health and well-being.

Breathing Exercises:

  • I take time each day to do breathing exercises, just a few moments to concentrate on my breath. I fit this in when I am waiting for the kettle to boil, for example, or waiting for dishwasher to finish — it’s now a habit rather than a chore, and I find this has also helped with my mental health
  • Breathing techniques and using essential oils have helped me get improved sleep, better mood and feelings of calm which is very welcomed whilst going through the menopause
  • I use breathwork to help when stressed or struggling to sleep.

Reflexology:

  • Reflexology treatments have helped with relaxation as well as providing pain relief
  • I find Reflexology helps to maintain balance and help relieve back pain. These sessions also help to release stressful thoughts and feel calm so I’m ready to take on the world again!

Meditation:

  • For the past 6 months, I have practiced meditation daily and my blood pressure is now firmly in the normal range.
  • I regularly do 10 minutes meditation when my son is asleep for relaxation and some time for myself. I also do reiki on my son before bed to help him settle and he sleeps through!

Barefoot Walking:

  • I like to walk around my garden barefoot when I can as I feel connected with the earth

Embracing Silence:

  • A quiet moment to just sit and be; I turn off all devices and sit in silence and enjoy the stillness

Walking:

  • Taking a walk in nature helps me a lot. A walk in a wooded area to sit on a bench with a friend but not saying a word, just enjoying nature and looking up at the sun shining through the trees

            Reiki:

  • Having regular reiki keeps me sane!

Gratitude:

  • I now focus daily on gratitude for all elements of my life, including those things that challenge me, my anxiety levels have all but disappeared

Crystals:

  • I keep crystals at home to cleanse my room and help cleanse my mind, I think this helps to keep my anxiety at bay

At Rebalanceyou, I have developed a new therapy called Reproductive Reiki Reflex to support those on their fertility journey, bringing a holistic approach alongside their medical treatment. Here are some client experiences:

  • IVF Support Reproductive Reiki Reflex helped me to be positive through the wait and challenges of IVF. Little things like the breathwork and how to mentally see each contraction as a step closer to meeting my baby, was invaluable for me.
  • Anxiety Management: Ali helped me to regulate my nervous system and supported me to incorporate grounding strategies into my every day. I genuinely don’t know how I would have managed an anxious pregnancy without her support.

By incorporating holistic practices into your life, you can cultivate a sense of balance and harmony. Practices can be integrated with medical health care or have profound results in their own right. However, it is essential to remember that what works for one person may not work for another, so explore different methods and find what resonates with you.

Here are a few mindful tips;

  • Breath Counting: Breathe in and out while counting to 10, restarting if distracted.
  • Square Breathing: Breathe in for 4, hold for 4, breathe out for 4, hold for 4, and repeat.
  • Focused Attention: Set a timer for 5 minutes and focus on one object.
  • Music: Listen intently to a piece of music for 3-5 minutes daily.
  • Tea Ritual: Make tea with fresh leaves and watch them settle.
  • Guided Practices: Try Qigong, yoga, or guided meditation.
  • Yoga Nidra: Connect mind and body with this free practice.
  •

Conclusion

In conclusion, embracing holistic ways doesn’t require drastic changes or hours of dedication. By making small, intentional shifts in our daily lives, we can experience improvements in our health and well-being, better ways to manage the stress in our lives and a little extra happiness!
